i swear i wasn’t gone on vacation that long! i’ve had a time trying to get back into the swing of things since my return and, although the blog has been on a tab for the past week as a reminder, i’ve barely had time to sit down at my computer long enough to update properly.
i have a surprise!! because it’s been so long since i’ve updated, i have THREE pictures to post this afternoon! ![]()
contain your excitement, if you can.
i wore this out to dinner on Sunday. the dress is a thrift find from way back, but i recently cut it off. the shoes are my new high-heeled moccasins i’ve been raving about. they’re super, although a little painful if worn for exceedingly long amounts of time (but aren’t all heels, really?).
i wasn’t actually going to purchase them when i did. i tried them on and debated. they were very, very much on sale. the very attractive sales clerk watched me the entire time. naturally, i struck up a conversation. standing and half-posing in front of the full length mirror, i commented, “well. honestly, these shoes aren’t even really practical”. and, like a good, attractive sales clerk should to a very easily swayed shopper, he replied, “well, at that price, practicality shouldn’t even matter!”
i couldn’t argue with him.
so i bought the shoes.
speaking of moccasins…it’s really impractical to be wearing shoes with fur lining in the summer.
but i simply can’t speak enough about how comfortable they are- not just your actual foot is cozy, but there’s a fuzzy sensation you get from having your little feet wrapped in something so fashionable, yet historically significant. i think moccasins are an example of how practical fashions, that may not necessarily be utterly attractive at a first glance, can rapidly gain popularity- in this case, there was a bit of a rebirth of moccasins in the 70s, and then again in the past year or so.
what’s i’m TRYING to say here is: if you do NOT own a pair of moccasins, or have at the very least, tried a pair on, you really should. your feet will thank you.
finally, on a truly exciting note, rather than a facetious one, my 3rd and final picture for this post was actually not taken in front of my heavily-collaged closet. rather, it was taken in a corn field. by an incredibly talented photographer by the name of Graham Morrison.
i highly recommend taking a look at his flickr account, located here:
you’re in for a real treat.

dress from Old Navy, actually. they have them in a lovely array of colors. i was really surprised because the cut isn’t very modern at all; it’s very reminiscent of dresses from the 40s and 50s. AND!!…there’s an elastic waistband. and pockets. yellow deer necklace from modcloth.com (INCREDIBLE indie clothing! if you haven’t already heard of it, check it out!). belt is vintage.
as a final word, i promise that i haven’t forgotten about all your challenges! what i don’t already have in my wardrobe has been a real challenge to find and i haven’t been very successful at the few thrift stores i’ve been to (and, as a sidenote, even american apparel didn’t have snakeskin tights! what a let down…).
but keep the challenges coming!
hope you’re staying cool, wherever you are.
xoxo
