about “dare you to wear”

what is the “dare you to wear…” challenge?

for the remainder of the summer, and hopefully beyond, i want to personally challenge my boundaries and what i know to be comfortable regarding fashion. it is also a design challenge for me, being able to create an outfit around one “must”. i want to challenge those around me to question what they know to be comfortable, normal, or aesthetically pleasing.

for a prolonged period of time, i will be designing my daily outfits based on suggestions made by YOU.

this project also has the potential to be a integral part of several long-term projects that i’ll be working on in the coming year, so you’re assisting me academically as well!

how does it work?

every few days, i’ll pull comments that i’ve gotten here, in my email account, on my facebook, and from those around me and i’ll create and document an outfit using these garments of choice.

for example:

“alexa, i would never be caught dead wearing a feather boa during my waking life. i dare you to wear a feathered boa all day.”

i would then not only carry out the dare, but document it and post it online here.

i will try to pull things that are similar from my own wardrobe, will hunt until i find it in local thrift stores, may make it, or will accept donations from anyone who would like to see their garment/accessory worn and documented online (“alexa! i found this huge gaudy necklace that used to belong to my mom in the 80s. it’s got legos and seashells on it and is hideous. i’ll let you borrow it for a day if you promise to wear it”).
